About Cynthia Overgard

As the saying goes, the expert in anything was once a beginner. Cynthia Overgard first discovered HypnoBirthing® when she was 7 months pregnant with her first child, and later chose a midwife-assisted, drug-free birth. Her son weighed 8 lb. 14 oz. and was born in a Jacuzzi bathtub at the birth center in Danbury CT. Four years later, she home-birthed her 9 lb. 7 oz daughter. Her labors lasted just 3 and 5 1/2 hours, respectively, from the very beginning to the end. Cynthia’s first birth was nothing short of life-changing. She and her husband, and their newborn son, returned home as a family just 8 hours postpartum. The beauty and simplicity of her son’s birth compelled Cynthia to resign as a finance & risk management executive at MasterCard to pursue the field of childbirth, and within two years she was an internationally-published educator/author in various award-winning publications.

In early 2007, Cynthia began teaching HypnoBirthing in Stamford CT to small groups of couples who were seeking a more informed, better way of birthing. Her Stamford HypnoBirthing classes resulted in a powerful word-of-mouth following that extended across the state of Connecticut and into parts of New York, Long Island and New Jersey. In 2009, Cynthia expanded HypnoBirthing of Connecticut into a full-service childbirth education center in Westport, the only childbirth education center in the northeast and the only HypnoBirthing facility of its kind.

In early 2015, Cynthia became trained through Postpartum Support International to expand her services to postpartum mothers seeking connection and self-care strategies for avoiding or getting through postpartum blues or depression. Now the sister-company to HypnoBirthing of CT, Life After Birth is an enriching program offering classes weekday mornings for postpartum moms in Westchester and Connecticut.

Today Cynthia is among the most internationally-featured childbirth education experts in global media. She continues to author research-based evidence on childbirth and is regularly published as a writer and interview subject in the media. She has provided HypnoBirthing education to CT- and NY-based celebrities and to more than one-thousand Connecticut and Westchester couples in all, with approximately 150 new couples per year. HypnoBirthing of Connecticut, LLC is a limited liability company.

Personal Life

Cynthia is deeply-passionate about healthy living, from her regular yoga practice to her pescetarian household and natural approach to her children’s health and upbringing. In addition to being a full-time mother of two and running the HypnoBirthing center and Life After Birth in Connecticut, Cynthia is very active in her community and holds committee responsibilities with the Westport public library and school system. Her family enjoys game nights (chess and Boggle being the current favorites), hiking and playing with Bella, their chocolate-lab rescue.
